Seit dem Ende von Buch 1 hat sich in Nick Cooper’s Welt ein bisschen was getan: Auch durch sein Zutun ist der amerikanische Präsident abgesetzt worden, und Cooper arbeitet jetzt als Berater für das neue Staatsoberhaupt. Cooper’s Hauptaufgabe ist es dabei, der Regierung Hilfestellung zu geben, wie ein Zusammenleben zwischen normalen Menschen und ‚Brilliants‘ friedvoll gelingen kann.

Nick’s recht ungewohnter Schreibtischjob wird zur Zerreißprobe (und auch wesentlich interessanter), als die ‚Children of Darwin‘, eine von Brilliants gebildete Terrorgemeinschaft, drei amerikanische Großstädte lahmlegt. Schön, dass nach einem recht passiven Beginn damit auch Leben in die Sache kommt.
