Mir schwirrt der Kopf. Normalerweise sind zweite Teile einer Trilogie ja immer etwas lahm und unbefriedigend. Statt zu überraschen, führen sie die Geschichte einfach weiter, lassen echte Höhepunkte und Wow-Momente oft vermissen, bis hin zum üblichen Cliffhanger.

Nichts davon gilt für The Infinite Sea. Gleich zum Start gibt es eine grausige Szene, die durch die sachliche Erzählweise noch gruseliger wirkt. Gänsehaut. Und dann erzählt – nein, NICHT Cassie, die Hauptfigur aus Buch 1, sondern ein anderes, nicht weniger toughes Mädchen: die abgebrüht erscheinende Ringer. Tatsächlich wird ein großer Teil der Geschichte von ihr erzählt, doch wer sich jetzt darüber aufregt, sollte durchatmen. Ringer erweist sich im Vergleich zu Cassie als ebenbürtig, ihre Story is komplex und fesselnd, und mir persönlich ist ihre Charakterstärke und bissige Attitude sogar lieber als Cassie’s eher launisches Wesen.
